A Year Older And A Year Wiser... Alhamdulillah...

A birthday is just another day,

young of mind, yet youthful looks go away.

Another year older,

the world seems a bit colder.

Yet my heart still burns,

and for love it forever yearns.

Another year older,

I grow even bolder.

Life is for us to learn from,

as calculated as a mathematical sum.

Another year older,

hurting blazes now just smolder.

Letting go of past rage and pain,

living life and feeling sane.

Another year older,

a tear on your shoulder.

Life has not been so bad,

my tear is of joy not because I'm sad.

Another day older,

more pages added to my folder.

I'm glad of whom I am today,

I would not have myself any other way.

So don't mind that I write my own birthday rhyme,

I've lived through my life up till this time.

I think it is safe to say,

that things will go as planned His way.

He's got more for me yet,

It'll be even better I bet.

Saturday, July 25th, 2009 was the day the award-winning Malaysian film director Yasmin Ahmad passed away after undergoing a surgery following her collapse...

She's just one of those few talented directors whom I adore... Her great films [Rabun, Sepet, Gubra and Muallaf (just to name a few)]had captured the essence of racial harmony in Malaysia and are watched by all races...

We've lost someone that is so talented and unique in her own kind of way...

May Allah s.w.t bless her and place her among the righteous ones... Insya'allah... Amin...

As Salam & Hello Peepz!!

I'm back... Gosh!! How I miss my blog and fellow bloggers!! I've not been blogging and blog-hopping for quite a while due to my tight schedule... hee hee...

So what's been happening in my life these past few days? Here goes...

Aunt Mama Yang and her 2 daughters (Cousin Lala & her little sister, Yaya) came over for a little visit to our crib... [Thanks for coming over y'all... Thanks for chilling over and see my 2 toddlers... I really appreciate it... mmmmuah!! =) And to Lala: Seriously, I have no idea how to use a live journal... Mcm mangkok siak aku... lol...]

My babies and I, had a little meet up with my godsister (Liana) and her adorable baby girl (Adrianna)... We talked for hours!!

Liana and I, we were neighbours... I've known her eversince childhood... Let me see... Back then, I was 5 years old and she was only 2... We shared a lot of things together and have so much in common... Both of us are the eldest in our families... And being the eldest, it does take a huge toll on ourselves and we always relate each other's problems to one another... The issues that we have with our parents and siblings.. You could say that we have each other's shoulder to cry on...

Even though we aren't neighbours anymore, someway, somehow, we always make sure to keep ourselves in touch no matter where we may be... [So Liana, if you're reading this, I just got something to say: I will always treat you as my very close friend and sister... No matter where you are, may Allah protect you and your family always... Insya'allah... Amin... Lame jugak eh kitorg know each other... It's been like 23years plus I think... From a little kid till we both become a mother and have children of our own... I just don't want this bond to end just like it did with our moms (if you get what I mean)... Our moms... They may not be keeping themselves in touch with one another... But us, their daughters, we will ALWAYS keep ourselves in touch no matter where or what our lives might turn out to be... Love you sis... =)]

Oh!! Then there's this 3days course that I had to attend... Occupational First Aid Course... I'll talk about that later...

A Weekend Trip To IKEA & Giant Hypermarket...

I spent the evening of last Saturday (with my mini little family), by doing a little "walk and shop" at IKEA and Giant Hypermarket in Tampines...

First stop was IKEA... Did a little shopping... Bought me a huge coffee mug coz I've been yearning to grab one... So yeah, bought it for $6.90... Hubby said that I'm crazy for buying a mug with that kinda price... Alaaaa... You know la kan, orang lelaki ni kan memang macam tu... hee... hee...

I bought some items for the babies as well... A plastic baby bib, mug, bowl and spoon... They both have a set each...

Hubby wants to grab a few aromatherapy candles... So yeah, he got his stuffs too!!

Actually kan, aku ade beli potty plant to be placed in the office but I left it there at IKEA accidentally... pfft... Oh!! Pokok cute ku, bukan rezki ku untok mengambil dan menjage mu... huu... huu... Sedih tau pokok aku tetinggal... Da bayar plak tu!!

Next was Giant Hypermarket... Aaaaaaand!! This I must say it out in my blog...

"Kak Annnnnn!! Finally!! I bought myself a Neutrogena Wave already!! arggggggh!! You're right la Sis... Bende ala ni POWER la sei... Thanks for the tip ya... mmmmuah!!"

Aku tersangat la happy betol dapat beli bende tu!! Alhamdulillah... Balek tros pakai you!! I even tried it on the hubby and he loves it!!

Oh!! Oh!! Got myself another eyeliner of a different colour... It's Green Jade from Maybelline... Woo hoo!! Plus a Hot Sauna Clay Mask from Garnier... hee hee...

We didn't shop much really... Just some teeny-weeny little stuffs... Saje2 je nak jalan2...

A Little Peep At Asyura's Lips...

Alhamdulillah, the cut on little Asyura's lip is healing...

But I'm a little worried though... Are you guys able to see the scar on her lower lip? A thin line... I could clearly see it... Could you?

I'm worried that the scar is a little bit too obvious for my girl... Worried that the scar might affect her as she aged... You know, most girls and women are very particular about their facial features that sort of thing... Just worried it'll affect her self esteem one day...

Insya'allah... I pray and hope that nothing like that will happen to her... Love her and her brother so much... (^_^)

First It was Asyura, And Now It's Asil...

As Salam Peepz,

Masya'allah... Life's full of obstacles... It's up to us on how we go about overcoming it...

My little Asil had a fall last Thursday night that caused him to have a dislocated elbow joint... He was groaning in pain and kept saying, "Ummi pain... pain...", while showing us his left arm in baby talk... He won't even lift up his left arm. He was basically crying, whining, groaning and shouting even until we put him to sleep...

Asil was still feeling the pain from his left arm the next morning when he woke up. He was still not moving or lifting up his arm. Everytime we tried to lift his arm, he would eventually ended up with a cry... Sensing that something was wrong, hubby and I, we decided to bring him to the doctor at our Neighbourhood Polyclinic...

His whole entire left arm, hand plus fingers were being x-rayed... I tell you, the moment when Asil entered the X-Ray Room and saw all those huge gadgets, he was already starting to freak out... The doctor was actually looking for a fractured bone or something but it turns out that there was not even a single broken bone on him...

The Polyclinic Doctor (staring at Asil's arm), "There isn't a single fractured bone on your son's arm. There should be a problem coz right now, he's not been lifting or moving his entire left arm. I think I've got to write a referral letter for your son and refer him to KKH Accident & Emergency Department where the Specialist there would eventually assist in this matter. You need to bring along your son's X-Ray films there as well..."

So we ended up bringing little Asil to KKH Women's & Children's Hospital...

The KKH Specialist (while looking at Asil's X-Ray films), "I see that there isn't any problem with his bones... Nothing fractured... And till now he still won't lift up his left arm... hmmmm... Let me do some joint exercise on his arm coz I think your son might have a dislocated joint somewhere and I think it's his elbow coz right now, I see a slight swelling on the area... I'll try do this short exercise to try locate the joint back..."

Me (already looking freaked out), "What? It's not gonna be a painful exercise for my son right? He won't cry right?"

Specialist (looking all smiley), "Not to worry... There would be a slight pain and your son would definitely cry from it... Don't worry, it's a short exercise... I'm just trying to locate his joint back..."

Me (getting teary while looking at my hubby), "OK Baba, I think you better hold Asil and let the doctor do whatever he wants to do while I stand aside OK..."

The Specialist eventually pulled Asil's left arm, twisted it on one side and fold his arm inwards for a few times... By then, true enough, my little Asil was crying and screaming his lungs out in pain... We have to wait and see the outcome for about 10mins, and should there be no improvement, the Specialist needs to do this exercise on Asil again...

And so for the 2nd time, there was still no improvement... Asil was not moving his left arm and he couldn't even do a "High 5" with it when the Specialist wanted him to do so... He ended up with a plaster cast on his left arm and that cast would be with him (all wrapped up and bandaged) for a few days...

Total cost for Asil's injured arm: X-Ray ($64) + KKH A & E ($80) + Prescription ($6) = $150/-

So it looks like Asil would have to come back for a check up with an Orthopedic Surgeon in a few days time... I just hope his arm would be fine soon... =) Insya'allah... Amin...

An Evil Eye...

The first thing went my boss's daughter (who returned to Singapore from her overseas study of 2 years) did went entering the office was approaching me who was pretty much busy doing paperworks.

She said (getting all smiley and then hugged me), "Hi Lily, how are you?"
Me (looking all happy and hugged her as well), "Hi Gina, I'm fine. How are you? You look great with your new hairdo... Nice..."
Her (smiling again while giving me a cute little red gift), "I bought a little something for you from Turkey. A little good luck charm for you and your family. For your babies. I hope it will bring you more good luck in the future."
Me (surprised), "What? For me and my family? Aweeee... Thanks!! So sweet of you. I'm so touched."
Her (still smiling), "Naaah!! It's just a small gift. And I think you need it for good luck."

So I brought the little gift home, opened it and just like what I guessed. She had bought me an Evil Eye...

Being a Muslim (that means believing only in The One Almighty Allah, His Angels and His Prophets), I'm not into amulets or even talismans coz it's haram and shirk in Islam. But since it's a gift from someone who's so thoughtful to think of me and my family, I'll just treat it as a cute piece of hanging ornament and souvenir from Turkey. Besides, the Evil Eye glass bead looks pretty eye-catching to me. It's a waste if I just put it aside and not using it as a cute decoration. Well, I think I'll just hang the ornament in the car then. Bole jugak aku buat perhiasan dalam kreta... hee hee...

Oh!! And among the ayat that is attached to it was this...

وَ إِنْ يَكادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ
And those who disbelieve would almost smite you with their eyes when they hear the reminder - Al-Qalam, Verse 51 of the Holy Quran

A little info about the Evil Eye:

In Turkey, wherever you look, you'll meet plenty of eyes looking at you.

A nazar or evil eye stone is an amulet from ancient mythology that protects against evil eye.

Colourful beads, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, and all manner of decoration may be adorned by this particularly popular symbol, and it is common to see it on almost anything, from babies, horses, doors to cars, cell phones, and even on Turkish airplanes.

It is common in the Turkish culture to give a gift of a Blue Glass Nazar Boncugu (Nazar Boncuk) or The Evil Eye Bead as it is more widely known. People hang a small evil eye amulet from the rear view mirror of their car, keep several small evil eye beads or evil eye charms on hand to give to guests, hang an evil eye near their door in the home or office. Glass evil eyes are even worn in the form of jewelry or trinkets; evil eye bracelet, evil eye necklace, evil eye anklet, gold or silver evil eye charms and evil eye pendant, evil eye earrings.

So does injury by "an Evil Eye" possess any reality?

Many of the people are of the belief that some of the eyes possess a peculiar influence such that if they happen to look at something in wonder, they destroy it or break it, and if they happen to look at a person, they make him sick or (even) insane.

According to intellect, this is not something which is impossible. Many of today’s scientists believe that concealed in some of the eyes lies a special magnetic force which has great advantages and utility, such that it can even be nurtured and developed by means of training and exercise; the magnetic sleep is induced by means of this very magnetic force of the eyes.

In a world wherein X-rays are able to perform tasks, the like of which even the most destructive of weapons are unable to perform, acknowledging the presence of a force, in some of the eyes, that is capable of influencing someone by means of some special waves should not appear to be greatly fantastic and strange.

It has been numerously reported that people have personally witnessed individuals, possessing this mysterious power of the eyes, to have incapacitated humans, animals and things by injuring them by means of ‘evil eye’.

Thus, not only should one not insist on rejecting such issues but instead acknowledge the possibility of their occurrence - scientifically and intellectually.

In the Islamic traditions too, various expressions meet the eye which, sort of, corroborate the existence of such an issue.

In a tradition we read that Asmaa Bint U’mays once said to the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): At times, some people inflict injury to the children of Ja’far by means of ‘evil eyes’.

"Should I procure a charm for them?" (Charm means prayers, which people keep in their possessions to protect themselves from ‘evil eyes’; this is also referred to as ta’weedh).

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied:

لو كان شي‏ء يسبق القدر لسبقه العين‏
(Yes, there is no harm in it). Had there been something that could have superseded divine fate and destiny, it would have been ‘evil eye’!) - Mufradaat, of Raaghib (سحر).

In another tradition it has been reported that Amirul Mu'mineen (peace be upon him) said:

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) secured a charm for Imam Hasan and Imam Husain (peace be upon them) and recited the following supplication:

أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ وَ أَسْمَائِهِ الْحُسْنَى كُلِّهَا عَامَّةً مِنْ شَرِّ السَّامَّةِ وَ الْهَامَّةِ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
(I place you in the refuge of all of the Perfect Words and the Best Names of God from death, harmful animals, evil eye and from the evil of the envious when he envies.)

Then turning to us, he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said:

“Likewise Prophet Ibrahim did the charm for Ismai’l and Ishaaq.” - Holy Qur'an, ch. Taha (20), vs. 66.
In Nahjul Balaghah we read:

الْعَيْنُ حَقٌّ وَ الرُّقَى حَقٌ‏
(Injury by the evil eye is true and resorting to prayers to ward away its evils is true too.) - Ibid, ch. Al-Aa’raaf (7), vs. 116. , Ibid, ch. Al-Baqarah (2), vs. 102.

4. I hate PEOPLE who loves competing and comparing my life or my family life with theirs... I find these type of PEOPLE so "kolot" and so typical-ish... Dorang ni sume macam tak de keje lain gitu...
5. I dislike the "K-POs", the hypocrites & the backstabbers... I think those who fall under all these categories should be given a huge smack on their freaking faces...
6. I love to spend good quality time with my FAMILY... They mean a WHOLE WORLD to me...
7. Creepy crawling insects disgust me... e.g. cockroaches, centipedes, millipedes or whatever that concerns insects with feelers... They give me the goosebumps and I always freak out whenever I bumped into one...
8. I love baking... Y'all should try my Chocolate Cake... yummy!!
9. I love both of my paternal and maternal grandmothers... My prayers will always be with them no matter where they may be... always...
10. My motto is, "IF YOU FAIL, TRY AND TRY AGAIN..."

Nasi Briyani? Anyone?

I found something that's totally purely made in sunny Singapore by fellow Singaporeans (Whoever you guys are, I just would like to say a big THANK YOU for creating such a wonderful site)...

I was actually browsing thru the Internet for some info on Muslimah Swimsuits yesterday when I found this interesting site called, "NASI BRIYANI LOUNGE"... (Cute name huh? I thought so too... hee hee... The name itself tells it all...)

What did I do next? Visited it la, of course!!

The moment I browsed in, I knew, this could be one of those few sites that I would love to get myself involved with... I totally fell in love with "Nasi Briyani Lounge" the moment I visited it... At last!! One of those few good sites where I could relate certain topics and useful infos to and best of all, it's made in Singapore!!

I'm actually the type of person who don't easily get hooked to certain sites blindly... I would usually judge all these sites and consider those that are useful prior to my needs... And to tell you frankly, right now, I'm only into "Blogger", (where I blog about myself and my Blogshop), Multiply (is another site where I promote my Blogshop) and also Twitter (where I provide short updates of myself for the day)...

"Nasi Briyani Lounge" is actually a community site where (if you are a member) you could ask and answer all kinds of questions that come into topic. For someone like me, I found that there's less info in the Internet where I could search and enquire on matters that involves our everyday lives in Singapore...

I pretty much envy my fellow Malaysian friends who could easily get whatever info they want pertaining to anything that involves issues or stuffs in their country. I mean, they have lots of sites that involves the Malaysian Muslim Community. Just surf thru the Internet and you'll get what I mean...

Try signing up and log into "Nasi Briyani Lounge"... Insya'allah... Whatever opinions, tips or even info will definitely be shared by members who came from different walks of life... It's a site where Muslims and non-Muslims alike could get together and exchange their views on a lot of things...

Say "Hello" To TWEET...

Yesterday, we had a little visitor in the crib... Everyone were watching TV while I was busy doing my chores... This was how the story about the little cute visitor goes...

My brother (Alep)[whispering], "Kak... Oi Kak... Sini kejap... Shhhhh... Diam2 siket..."

Me [puzzled], "Huh? Ape diye? Ape SHHHHH?"

Him [pointing at the living room window], "Kak tengok tu... Ade ape tu... Shhhhh... Diam2 jer..."

Me [thinking that it's a flying cockroach that had accidentally flew in], "Ape SHHHHH? Don't tell me there's a freaking cockroach stuck at the window grill?"

Him, "No la... You look closely... Tell me what is it..."

So I looked and guess what.. A cute little bird perched itself on our window grill... Cute!! Really cute... I've no idea what's the scientific name in English but what I know is, in Malay, it's called the "Burong Mate Putih" la...

What did we do next? We tried catching it!! All doors and windows shut... Then, that's where the fun of catching the little bird began... ahahahaha!! [Thanks Dad for helping us out... Tak sangke pandai betol Papa aku tangkap burong... (^_^) hee hee...]

Today, after work, I managed to drop by at our neighbourhood Pet Shop with hubby and grab a bird cage for the little bird coz at the moment, he's kept in a shoe box... [Thanks Pak Itam for purposely dropping by at our crib and helping us out with the temporary little "bird box"... Innovative betol la pakcik aku yg satu ni... Suke aku!!]

Everyone were delighted to welcome the new member in the family... Both of my babies were so excited with their new pet... So what's his name? We decided to call our new pet bird, "Tweet"... Inspiration of the name comes from TWITTER... lol... So since I'm still new to TWITTER and the little bird is still new to our family, let's call him, "TWEET" then... hee hee...

P/S: My pet cat, Black is seriously going bonkers over Tweet... As you know, most cats can't get along well with birds... You know... "Predator and Prey" that sort of thing...

Poor Little Asyura...

So I came to the office this morning with aches and pain all over my body... I really didn't feel like coming to work but I had to... pfft... Piles of paperwork need to be done... There are lots of other stuffs still on pending... Well, at least I've already informed my superior (in advance) that I'm just gonna be in on a half day today...

It was 20 mins before 1pm and just when I was about to pack my stuffs and get ready for home, my mobile phone rang... Hubby called saying, "You better leave the office now..."

Me, "Why?"

Him, "Anak you jatoh mulot diye koyak... You cepat la balek... I'm coming to fetch you now... You turon bawah skarang..."

Me, "Huh? Sape? Asil mulot koyak? Asal bole mcm tu?"

Him, "Later talk... You just turon bawah jer..."

So me, being the "panicky kanchong spider" type of mom, I packed as quickly as I could (tapi sempat pulak tu update a bit pasal ni kat TWITTER... lol...) and started calling my mom... My judgement was wrong... It wasn't Asil but it was Asyura instead... And the moment I heard her cries on the phone, my heart was thumping like crazy and I burst into tears...

Mom (on the phone), "Kak... Asyura jatoh... Bibir diye koyak... Darah klua non-stop ni... Mama da letak ice tapi darah maseh klua ni..."

Aku apelagi... Lagi panic giler la aku ni... Air mate pon meleleh... I couldn't control my tears already by then... So hubby fetched me up, we rushed back home to get Asyura and off we went to the Yishun Polyclinic... Alhamdulillah, priority was given to my little girl as soon as we arrived...

The cut was 1cm long and about 0.3mm deep... Asyura had 2 options... Either let the cut heal by itself (coz study shows that babies, her age, heals faster than adults do) but there would still be a scar left on her lip area OR straight away refer her to KKH Women's & Children's Hospital where the Specialist on duty would eventually stitch her cut up and yes there would also be a scar left on her lip area as well...

I was already imagining the next worst scenario... Hubby tried his best to calm me down... I mean, you know, the cut lip, the blood oozing, the swelling and Asyura's cries... All these was enough to make ME cry...

I couldn't imagine the situation where the specialist in KKH would stitch up Asyura's lip and there'll be nurses holding her down and then definitely, there'll be cries coming out from her, from the stitch, the pain and everything... Gosh!!

We ended up taking the 1st option... Let the cut heal by itself and we live the rest to Allah... Tawakkal jer la... Insya'allah tak de pape...

So a prescription was given to heal the wound... And miraculously, somehow (Syukur Alhamdulillah) her swelling subsides and the torn lip eventually (slowly) closing itself up...

Native Deen...

NATIVE DEEN is a Muslim Nasheed group from the USA.

They consist of 3 young Muslim men who were born and raised in USA. Joshua Salaam, Naeem Muhammad and Abdul Malik Ahmad who grew up in Washington, DC. Their music seeks to inspire young people to keep their Islamic faith amid the pressures & temptations of daily life.

"Deen" in Arabic means religion or way of life. The group identifies themselves as Muslim, and wear traditional Islamic dress such as kufis and shalwar kameez. Of course, they say there is more than one way to identify as a Muslim, both by etiquette and dress.

Their music are fusion, hip-hop and R&B style, with lyrics on Islam and several of their songs focus on living as a Muslim in America amidst pressures & temptations. Their music typifies the subgenre "positive hip-hop".

I'm telling you, the way this group projects Islam (thru their songs) is really fabulous!!

Hubby loves it, I love it & even my little toddlers are loving it too...

My little Asil had even managed to memorised some of the lyrics all by himself and sang along in baby talks... While little Asyura on the other hand, swayed her head from side to side whenever the songs were being played... =)

Imagine how would it be if NATIVE DEEN was invited to sing in Singapore... Masya'allah!! Definitely, my family would be one of those to see them perform live on stage... Definitely...

Why we love NATIVE DEEN?

I don't know how to say this... You guys should go listen to all their songs, how they mix the beat and everything plus the way they flo... Their songs could be appreciated by people of all races, religions and ethnicities...

Seriously, they are VERY TALENTED & UNIQUE in their own kind of way... =)
